Cincinnati Laser Hair Removal

LHR targets the pigment in the hair follicle so it works best on darker hair. It does not treat blonde, red, gray or white hair. Hair cycles between three phases: a growing phase (anagen), a resting phase (telogen) and a falling out phase (catagen). Since lasers target pigment in the hair follicle while in a growing phase (anagen), we will need to treat the hair multiple times while it cycles through these phases. Do not wax or pluck the hairs as this will pull out the target for the laser (the hair follicle). You can shave or use a clipper to treat the hair prior to a treatment.

Our trained nurses will apply a topical numbing for 20 minutes prior to your procedure beginning. Once the treatment begins, it will take about 20-40 minutes depending on the treatment area.

We have the latest technology in laser hair removal which provides gentler and less painful treatments than other options on the market. LHR treatments are not painful and feel like a rubber band snap with every pulse of the laser delivered to your skin. This sensation goes away very quickly and is very tolerable. We offer numbing cream to make this more comfortable for you. Areas that have more hair, like a bikini area, are more uncomfortable during the first treatment due to the amount of hair being treated but improve significantly with subsequent treatments.

Mona Dermatology laser hair providers receive extensive training and are licensed MDs, NPs, PAs, or RNs. Our lasers are safe to use in all skin types. People with darker skin will need more treatments since the laser we use has to safely bypass the natural pigment in their skin and get to the hair follicle without causing skin discoloration. We recommend avoiding LHR for at least 2 weeks before going into the sun and at least 2 weeks after having been in the sun.

With every treatment, you will notice a decrease in the amount of hair, the thickness of the hair, and how often the hair grows back. You may not see 100% hair removal but should expect up to 80-85% permanent reduction in hair. Depending on your skin type and the area being treated, we recommend 3-10 treatments spaced 4-8 weeks apart. Your provider will be able to determine the number of treatments necessary for your goals.

Your results will depend on your skin type and the area being treated. Since hair grows in cycles you may need to have maintenance treatments 1-2 times a year.

If you have brown or black hair, LHR will be an effective treatment for you. If you have white, gray, red or blond hair, other options such as Dermaplaning or topical Vaniqa may be more appropriate options for you.
